TrendForce forecasts a rebound in the smartphone camera lens market in 2024, with a 3.8% growth spurred by AI-driven smartphone trends to reach approximately 4.22 billion units. Samsung’s AI-packed flagship—the S24 series—is set to capture a larger market share thanks to its advanced Generative AI applications.
TrendForce reports a significant 8.9% decrease in shipments of smartphone camera modules in 2023, totaling around 4.065 billion units. This downturn is attributed to a decline in smartphone production and evolving trends in camera integration by major brands.
In this ambiance of restrained consumer enthusiasm, shipments of CMOS Image Sensors (CIS) are poised to take a correlated dip. TrendForce projects that we’re looking at a global shrinkage in smartphone CIS shipments from 4.46 billion units in 2022 to a more subdued 4.318 billion units in 2023. That translates to a YoY contraction of 3.2%.
Furthermore, increased production of camera lenses for budget smartphones means that production of phone camera modules is expected to increase by 3.6%, reaching a total output of 4.62 billion units in 2023, according to TrendForce research.
