Ranking of LED Chip Manufacturers in China－Report on China’s LED Epitaxy Industry

China’s LED chip industry has received a huge investment from 2009 to 2010. Although the output value is not yet large, there is no doubt about its great development speed and potential.

According to LEDinside’s statistics, the gross output of LED chip industry in China reaches more than 2 billion RMB (~USD294 million, at USD 1: RMB 6.796) and the number of Chinese players by area is as much as 62.

In light of LED chip sales in 2009, the top 10 LED chip manufacturers are ranked as follows:

Our ranking bases
Only sales of LED wafers and LED chip products in 2009 are calculated;
Sales of non-LED products are excluded;
LD sales are excluded;
Sales of LED package application products or other LED components are excluded;
LED chip manufacturers without MOCVD system or unable to produce LED wafers are not in the ranking;
Particular manufacturers who only provide total sales figure without sales of LED expitaxy wafers are not included in the ranking either.

In light of China’s top 10 LED chip manufacturers, the LED wafer sales of the top 7 all exceeded 100 million RMB (~USD15 million, at USD 1: RMB 6.796)  each in 2009 and that of the top 5 amounted to more than 150 million RMB (~USD22 million, at USD 1: RMB 6.796) each。Furthermore, Shandong Inspur Huaguang Optoelctronics would have been ranked higher if its LD sales had been taken into account.

Each of the top 10 companies is expanding production capacity with a total increase plan of several hundred MOCVD equipments.  As a result of the massive investment in 2009 and 2010, great changes have taken place in China’s LED chip industry in terms of both size and industrial pattern.
