LEDinside: Increasing Backlight Demand in February to Compensate for Fewer Working Days
According to LEDinside, a research division of TrendForce, sales revenues of public listed LED manufacturers in Taiwan totaled NT$7.347 billion(MoM-9.22%,YoY+18.1%) in February, 2011. Sales revenues of upstream chip manufacturers reached NT$3.471 billion(MoM-7.9%; YoY+23%) in February, 2011, up 23% compared to the same month of 2010. As for Taiwanese downstream LED package manufacturers, suffering from fewer working days in February, sales revenues reached NT$3.876 billion(MoM-10.3%,YoY+14%) , down 9.22% on month, but up 18.1% compared to the same month of 2010.
As for the upstream sector of the LED industry, one of MOCVD equipment suppliers, Aixtron's order backlog increased to 274.8 million euros, up 35% on year at the end of 4Q10; Veeco's order backlog increased to 555 million dollars. The future of LED industry continues to appear promising.
Sales Revenues of LED Chip Makers in February
Taiwanese manufacturers such as Epistar, Formosa Epitaxy, Tekcore and Genesis Photonics are making a breakthrough into the supply chain of Japanese and Korean TV manufacturers. Although fewer working days in February did leave an imprint on several manufacturers' output, it is expected that the performance will rebound in March and April.
In the short term, as far as market trend is concerned, backlight demand remains the major focus. Due to the improvement of luminous efficacy, fewer LED chip usage are required in the backlit application, whose penetration rate of LCD TV increases faster than expected. As a result, numerous LED manufacturers have shifted its focus to the LED lighting supply chain, where they will lay emphasis on in 2011. In regard to specifications of LED backlit application, they are moving closer toward specifications of LED lighting products with fewer LED chip usage required and less power consumption. Taiwanese manufacturers' achievement in the LED backlit application is nothing short of amazing compared to global major manufacturers. For example, Epistar improves luminous efficacy of warm-white light to 170 lm/W with advanced high-voltage LED technologies, enabling it to break into the supply chain of global major lighting manufacturers.
Sales Revenues of LED Package Makers in February
