According to the latest report from LEDinside, a division of the market research firm TrendForce, 2018 Chinese LED Chip and Package Industry Market Report, Chinese LED package market scale is USD 10 billion in 2017, representing an increase of 12% YoY. In light of LEDinside, the major growth momentum of large increase in Chinese package market is from the following demand markets including general lighting, automotive lighting, digital display and emerging niche markets which all see good performance.
General lighting market in 2017 continued strong demand in the second half of 2016. Chinese lighting package manufacturers represented by MLS and Hongli kept on expanding production capacity and their market share increased quickly. Due to higher manufacturing cost, international manufacturers have gradually increased OEM orders proportion of low- and medium power products. In addition, they made inroad into high-power architectural and landscape lighting market. In terms of automotive market, driven by new energy vehicle and high-end passenger vehicle, LED penetration ratio gradually rose and market scale was further expanded. As automotive market is dominated by international manufacturers, revenue of large manufacturers in Chinese market increased obviously, containing OSRAM OS, Seoul Semiconductors and Nichia, etc. In regard to display market, in addition to fine-pitch display, outdoor display with large pixel pitch is also tend to reduce pitch. The demand of display LED components grew by orders of magnitude. As for landscape lighting, with the rapid development of Chinese night economy, landscape lighting LED demand still experienced steady growth. Besides, even though the market scale of emerging markets like UV/IR, horticultural lighting is still smaller, they feature greater growth momentum and are likely to become the new growth point of LED industry in the future.
Among top ten manufacturers, four are international firms, two are Taiwan companies and four are Chinese enterprises. Noticeably, it was the first time that Jufei appeared on the rank list. In addition, top ten manufacturers took up market share of 48%. MLS surpassed Nichia for the first time, ranking No.1 in Chinese market, and its market share reached 8.5%. Moreover, MLS possessed number-one market share in both light decoration market and lighting market. Mainly driven by backlight, automotive lighting and niche projection markets, Nichia still maintained double-digit revenue growth in Chinese market. Concerning Lumileds, it still held the important position in high-end and automotive lighting markets. As the leading automotive lighting LED supplier, OSRMA OS enjoyed the bonus from the rapid development of LED automotive lighting; it has achieved apparent revenue growth in Chinese market with the ranking moving up one. Likewise, the increase in revenue of Seoul Semiconductors in Chinese market was promoted by automotive lighting market as well. As for other first-tier manufacturers in domestic market, Nationstar, Hongli and Jufei all made it into top ten and kept high-speed revenue growth. In the future, with the continuous expansion of production capacity, their ranking is expected to further move up.
