According to TrendForce latest report “2022 Deep UV LED Application Market and Branding Strategies,” as vaccination coverage increases with noticeable UV-C LED price slumps, TrendForce has revised down the UV LED market value to USD 317 million in 2021 (+2.3% YoY). In the long run, air and large surface sterilization will remain the major sectors for which leading home appliance brands strive. Additionally, UV-C LED will likely be applied to OEM automobile air conditioners, flowing water sterilization, manufacturing industry facilities, and factory automation applications. TrendForce expects the CAGR of UV-C LED market scale to reach 24% during 2021-2026.

According to TrendForce’s analysis, UV-C LED application markets in 2022 include those related to home appliance, public space and manufacturing application, flowing water sterilization, startup company, automotive air sterilization, and medical, life science and agricultural application.

 

 

TrendForce has analyzed the entry timelines of various UV-C LED applications as well as their desired optical power and product lifetime. The results reveal that following the maturity of UV-C LED technologies with more reasonable product prices, the demand for UV-C LED home appliances will grow steadily. Although the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the entry of UV-C LED into the Chinese automotive air sterilization market in 2020, desired LED components must still follow the AEC-Q102 standard. Therefore, the actual rise of UV-C LED adoption will be around 2024-2025. In addition, as UV-C LED has reached the industrial / commercial level regarding its optical power and product lifetime, it will likely enter the industrial / commercial flowing water sterilization markets in 2026.

 

As TrendForce reveals, more than 65 leading brand manufacturers either plan to or are already using UV-C LED, including home appliance, flowing water sterilization, automotive air sterilization and start-up companies.

Deep UV LED includes UV-B LED and UV-C LED, and that various applications have constantly emerged. However, the coexistence of superior and inferior product quality has made the market slightly chaotic. Nonetheless, Seoul Viosys, Asahi Kasei (Crystal IS), Nichia, ams OSRAM, Violumas, Stanley, LITEON, Samsung LED have released high optical-power UV-C LED with high reliability, and put in more efforts to focus on the home appliance, industrial and business, and flowing water sterilization markets. It is thus believed that they will help create more applications for the UV-C LED market. As TrendForce predicts, due to intense price competition, the UV-C LED market is likely facing a major shuffle in the coming 5 years, where suppliers launching products with high quality and cost competitiveness will gain the lead.
