While Samsung has reportedly lowered its 2025 sales targets for foldable smartphones, it is still making strides in the development of related technologies. According to its press release, the company will showcase the world’s largest foldable OLED panel, measuring 13.1 inches when folded and 18.1 inches when unfolded, at CES 2025.
According to Samsung, building on its 17.3-inch foldable OLED from 2022, the new foldable panel for IT devices will offer the screen size of two tablets. When folded, it becomes a 13.1-inch laptop display with touchscreen functionality.
However, a report from SamMobile notes that as Samsung never turned its 17.3-inch foldable OLED panel from 2022 into a commercial product, it would be unlikely to release a device with the new 18.1-inch panel. Foldable laptops are costly and lack enough practical uses to justify their premium price over standard laptops, the report adds.
Notably, a previous report from ETNews suggested that Samsung has taken a conservative stance on the Galaxy Z7 series, which will be released in the second half of 2025. According to ETNews, Samsung is eyeing to ship 3 million units for the Z Flip 7 model, while targeting only 2 million units for the Z Fold 7 model. The projection marks a significant reduction from the 8.2 million-unit goal for the Galaxy Z6 series, the report noted.
