Recently, two major acquisition announcements have made waves in the semiconductor industry: Onsemi has completed its acquisition of Qorvo’s silicon carbide (SiC) JFET technology, and Lenovo has acquired the Israeli enterprise storage company Infinidat.
Onsemi Completes Acquisition of Qorvo’s SiC JFET Technology
Onsemi announced that it has completed the $115 million cash acquisition of Qorvo’s silicon carbide junction field-effect transistor (SiC JFET) technology business and its subsidiary United Silicon Carbide.
The addition of SiC JFET technology is expected to enhance onsemi’s extensive EliteSiC power product portfolio, enabling it to address the demand for high efficiency and high-power density in AI data center power supply (AC-DC) applications.
In electric vehicle (EV) applications, replacing multiple components with SiC JFET-based solid-state circuit breakers improves energy efficiency and safety. In industrial markets, SiC JFET technology will support specific energy storage topologies and solid-state circuit breaker applications.
Simon Keeton, President and General Manager of onsemi’s Power Solutions Group, stated that the acquisition further strengthens onsemi’s leadership in power semiconductors and will provide customers with market-leading technologies to address critical challenges in AI data centers, automotive, and industrial markets, including power density and efficiency improvements.
Lenovo Acquires Israeli Enterprise Storage Company Infinidat
It has been reported that Lenovo has completed the acquisition of Israeli storage company Infinidat. Although the specific financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, Infinidat, founded in 2011, has shown impressive performance in fundraising, securing a total of $350 million to date and achieving a valuation exceeding $1 billion in its latest round.
Notably, this acquisition marks Lenovo’s first investment in Israel. Such acquisitions by Chinese tech giants in Israel are relatively rare. As part of the deal, Lenovo plans to establish a development center in Israel to further expand its market influence in the region.
Industry experts believe that, strategically, the acquisition will help Lenovo penetrate the Israeli market, strengthen its enterprise business portfolio, and enhance its global presence. On the technological front, integrating advanced storage technologies and innovative capabilities will drive innovation in the convergence of computing and storage solutions.
