The Rise of DeepSeek: Growing AI Infrastructure Demand Drives Cost-Effective Innovation

TrendForce reports that the global AI server market has been rapidly expanding since 2023. It is expected to account for over 15% of total server shipments by 2025 and could approach 20% by 2028. In response to increasing AI training demands, major cloud service providers (CSPs) have aggressively expanded their AI infrastructure.

From 2025 onward, the focus will shift to edge AI inference, utilizing next-generation GPU platforms such as NVIDIA Blackwell. Companies like AWS are also intensifying their investment in proprietary ASIC development to enhance cost efficiency and meet specialized AI application needs.

Meanwhile, Chinese CSPs and AI firms like DeepSeek are emphasizing the development of more efficient AI chips and algorithms to drive AI adoption across diverse industries.

Historically, the AI industry has relied on scaling models, increasing data, and enhancing hardware performance for growth. However, cost and efficiency challenges have emerged. DeepSeek addresses these issues through model distillation, compressing large models to accelerate inference speed and reduce hardware requirements. It also maximizes the efficiency of NVIDIA’s Hopper downscaled chips, optimizing computational resources.

DeepSeek’s cost advantages stem from high-performance hardware choices, distillation techniques, and an open API strategy, balancing technological optimization with commercial applications while reinforcing the AI industry’s trend toward efficiency.

The successful deployment of DeepSeek’s large models provides enterprises with low-cost, high-performance AI solutions. As more application scenarios emerge, DeepSeek is poised to play a pivotal role in various sectors, making its future developments highly anticipated.
