According to a report from ijiwei, U.S. lawmakers previously requested five major semiconductor equipment manufacturers to provide a list of their customers in China. On February 11, the Select Committee on the CCP specifically called out Silicon Valley-based Lam Research for failing to cooperate with the investigation. Lawmakers warned that if the company does not submit the requested data by February 21, necessary enforcement measures could be considered.

The committee states in its press release that after launching an investigation in November 2024 into leading semiconductor equipment manufacturers, including ASML, Tokyo Electron, Applied Materials, Lam Research, and KLA, Lam Research has not provided information regarding its semiconductor manufacturing equipment sales to China within the extended period.

As highlighted in the press release from the Select Committee on the CCP, China is now purchasing more semiconductor manufacturing equipment than the U.S., South Korea, and Taiwan combined, posing a significant risk to U.S. national and economic security.

Meanwhile, while the company remains under investigation by U.S. lawmakers, a Reuters report states that during the “Invest Karnataka” event on February 11, Lam Research announced plans to invest more than 100 billion rupees (USD 1.2 billion) over the next few years in the southern Indian state of Karnataka.
