Rumors of foldable Apple products, including iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks, have persisted for years. According to a Bloomberg report, Apple reportedly plans to launch its first foldable iPad in 2028. When unfolded, the device will measure around 20 inches—roughly the size of two iPad Pros placed side by side. Currently, the largest iPad screen size is 13 inches.

The report highlights that Apple aims to eliminate visible creases when the foldable iPad is unfolded, focusing on making the screen appear as a single, seamless piece of glass. While creases are now nearly imperceptible, Apple has yet to completely resolve the issue, as the report notes.

The operating system for this device has not been finalized, but it is expected to run on iPadOS, incorporating features from both Mac and iPad systems. According to the report, by the time the product is launched in 2028, iPadOS is anticipated to be advanced enough to support macOS apps while remaining compatible with iPad-specific accessories like the Apple Pencil.

On another note, the report mentions that although much of Apple’s current work on foldable screen technology is focused on the development of this high-end product, the company is reportedly also exploring the possibility of a foldable iPhone.

Among major smartphone manufacturers, Apple remains the only one without a foldable device, while competitors such as Samsung, Alphabet Inc.’s Google, and Chinese brands like Huawei have already introduced their own versions, as highlighted by the report. The report suggests that a foldable iPhone could debut as early as 2026, though this timeline is still speculative.
