GlobalWafers Secures $406 Million Subsidy for Expanding Advanced 12-Inch Silicon Wafer Production

On December 18, GlobalWafers, a leading semiconductor silicon wafer manufacturer, announced that its U.S. subsidiaries, GlobalWafers America (GWA) and MEMC LLC (MEMC), have received direct subsidies of up to $406 million under the U.S. CHIPS Act.

This funding will support GlobalWafers’ advanced semiconductor wafer factory investment plans in Sherman, Texas, and St. Peters, Missouri, with a total estimated investment of $4 billion.

Bosch Secures $225 Million for 8-Inch Silicon Carbide Plant Construction in California

The U.S. Department of Commerce recently announced a preliminary agreement with German automotive supplier Bosch to provide subsidies of up to $225 million (approximately ¥1.638 billion) for Bosch’s silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor plant construction in Roseville, California.

The $1.9 billion (approximately ¥13.833 billion) investment will transform the manufacturing facility into a silicon carbide power semiconductor factory. Bosch expects the facility to begin producing 200mm (8-inch) wafers in 2026.

Micron Receives $6.165 Billion in U.S. Subsidies to Boost Advanced DRAM Supply Capabilities

On December 10, the U.S. Department of Commerce announced direct funding of up to $6.165 billion for Micron Technology to support its capacity expansion plans. These include $100 billion in investments in New York over 20 years and $25 billion in Idaho. The funding aims to increase Micron’s share of advanced memory manufacturing from less than 2% to approximately 10% by 2035.

Coherent Establishes 6-Inch InP Production Line with $33 Million Subsidy

On December 6, the U.S. announced a proposed direct subsidy of up to $33 million for Coherent. This funding will modernize and expand the company’s 700,000-square-foot facility in Sherman, Texas, enabling large-scale production of indium phosphide (InP) devices. The project will establish the world’s first 150mm InP production line.

SkyWater Technology Receives $16 Million to Boost Wafer Capacity by 30%

On December 6, the U.S. announced a proposed subsidy of up to $16 million for SkyWater Technology. This funding will modernize its existing facility in Bloomington, Minnesota, by replacing equipment, upgrading clean rooms, and improving IT systems. These efforts aim to enhance production quality and wafer services, increasing overall capacity for 90nm and 130nm wafers by approximately 30%.

X-Fab Secures $50 Million for Silicon Carbide Foundry Expansion

On December 6, the U.S. announced a proposed subsidy of up to $50 million for X-Fab to expand and modernize its silicon carbide (SiC) foundry, the only high-volume SiC foundry in the United States.

Absolics Gains $75 Million for Advanced Packaging Substrate Technology

On December 5, the U.S. announced a direct subsidy of up to $75 million for Absolics, a subsidiary of South Korea’s SKC. The funding will be used to build a 120,000-square-foot factory in Covington, Georgia, and develop advanced packaging substrate technology for semiconductors.

Entegris Secures $77 Million to Expand Production of Critical Chip Manufacturing Products

On December 5, the U.S. announced a $77 million subsidy for Entegris. The funding will support the company’s construction of an advanced manufacturing facility in Colorado Springs, Colorado, providing critical materials and equipment for cutting-edge semiconductor production.
