According to a report from Wccftech, Apple is working on an upgraded version of the entry-level iPad, as the iPad 11 is expected to launch in spring 2025. However, it remains uncertain whether the device will feature Apple Intelligence capabilities. Currently, the iPad mini 7 is the most affordable device supporting Apple Intelligence, the report notes.
The report indicates that Apple’s new AI features require a baseline configuration, which it suggests might consist of the A17 Pro chip paired with 8GB of RAM—a setup already present in the iPad mini 7. If Apple plans to enable Apple Intelligence on the entry-level iPad, the device would likely need to include this configuration. However, the report considers this scenario unlikely, as it could disrupt Apple’s product lineup by making the iPad mini 7 redundant, given that the entry-level iPad and iPad mini 7 would then share identical specifications.
However, the report also highlights that a report from Bloomberg in October believes the entry-level iPad will include support for Apple Intelligence. Beyond the question whether the entry-level iPad will run Apple Intelligence, the Wccftech report cites MacRumors, claiming that a source has revealed that an entry-level iPad running iPadOS 18.3 is scheduled for launch in the Spring of 2025
According to MacRumors, citing sources, Apple is expected to release iOS 18.3 and iPadOS 18.3 in late January or early February 2025, coinciding with the launch of the M3 iPad Air and iPhone SE 4. Based on the same source, the MacRumors report also indicates that the entry-level iPad might not adopt Apple’s upcoming custom 5G modem, which is rumored to debut in the iPhone SE and iPhone 17 Air in 2025.
