[News] Apple Studio Display May Be Updated in 2025 with Mini LED Backlight Technology

On January 17, tech media outlet MacRumors published a blog post revealing that Apple is likely to release a second-generation Studio Display in 2025, featuring Mini LED backlight technology and supporting a 90Hz refresh rate.

Additionally, Apple is reportedly developing 90Hz display technology, which could be integrated into the next-generation Studio Display.

A higher refresh rate would make content like videos and scrolling text appear smoother. However, 90Hz remains lower than the 120Hz ProMotion technology available on iPhones and some Mac devices. Even so, it would still represent an improvement.

The current Studio Display was launched in March 2022 alongside the first-generation Mac Studio. It features a 27-inch LCD screen with 5K resolution, a 60Hz refresh rate, P3 wide color gamut, up to 600 nits of brightness, a built-in camera and speakers, one Thunderbolt 3 port, and three USB-C ports.

However, MacRumors also noted that Apple’s high-end Pro Display XDR has not received any hardware updates since its release in 2019, leaving open the possibility that the Studio Display’s successor may remain unchanged for several more years.
