According to the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), global semiconductor sales in 2024 totaled USD 627.6 billion, reflecting a 19.1% increase from the USD 526.8 billion recorded in 2023.
Citing SIA President and CEO John Neuffer, the report highlights that the global semiconductor market achieved a record-breaking sales year in 2024, exceeding USD 600 billion in annual sales for the first time. Looking ahead, the market is projected to experience double-digit growth in 2025, as cited in SIA’s press release.
SIA represents 99% of the U.S. semiconductor industry by revenue and nearly two-thirds of non-U.S. chip companies, as its press release indicates.
Additionally, SIA reports that fourth-quarter sales in 2024 reached USD 170.9 billion, marking a 17.1% increase compared to the same period in 2023 and a 3.0% rise from the third quarter of 2024.
However, global semiconductor sales in December 2024 totaled USD 57.0 billion, reflecting a 1.2% decline from November 2024, as SIA points out.
As indicated by SIA, regionally, yearly sales increased in the Americas (44.8%), China (18.3%), and Asia Pacific/All Others (12.5%), but down in Japan (-0.4%), and Europe (-8.1%) in 2024. In December 2024, month-to-month sales increased by 3.2% in the Americas, while other regions saw declines, with Asia Pacific/All Others down 1.4%, China decreasing 3.8%, Japan falling 4.7%, and Europe experiencing the largest drop at 6.4%.
Certain semiconductor product segments showed particularly strong performance in 2024 sales. According to SIA, logic products led the market in 2024, generating USD 212.6 billion in sales, making them the top-selling product category. Memory products ranked second, with sales surging 78.9% year-over-year to reach USD 165.1 billion. Notably, DRAM products, within the memory sector, experienced the highest percentage growth of any category, with sales soaring 82.6% in 2024.
The press release from SIA states that monthly sales data are compiled by the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS) organization and reported as a three-month moving average.
