According to the latest report from LEDinside, a division of the market research firm TrendForce, the markets of the IR LED/ IR Laser and optical sensor applications will witness a broad variety of business opportunities give that major IR products, such as security surveillance systems, and new tools and applications, including facial recognition, iris recognition, pulse oximetry sensor, virtual reality, gaming notebook, IR touch panel, and automotive sensors, are under continuous development. 
 
Social Security Issues And Automotive Night Vision Fosters Boost of Demand For IR LED
Joanne Wu, the Assistant Research Manager of LEDinside, pointed out that considering the awareness of social security has been raised, the demand for security surveillance systems is steadily growing, which is still the highlight in the high power IR market. In addition, automotive night vision has also become more prevalent among the western countries. Cooperating with CMOS camera, those vehicles help increase driver’s perception and seeing distance to a range of 100 meters long and 40 meters wide in darkness or poor brightness when driving in rural areas and on highways.
 
Mobile Payment And Driving Quality Upgrade Raises the Demand For Facial Recognition And Iris Recognition Systems
Facial recognition and iris recognition are also new IR LED applications. Wu explained that as mobile payment became a trend, Fujitsu and Samsung have introduced iris recognition into their smartphones, which could possibly lead to the emulation of other phone manufacturers. Meanwhile, when introduced into the automotive sensor market, those systems are also able to serve as assisting systems to help driver concentrate and enhance the overall driving quality.
 
Reflective Pulse Oximetry Sensor Came Into Being For Fitness, Training, Home Care, And Attention Assist System.
Currently, fitness wearables are becoming the mainstream; in the future, devices for home care, training and education, and attention assist will also have potentials to thrive. There are two models for the module of reflective pulse oximetry sensor- LED Discrete and overall solutions and consulting services. The differences between them lie in product designs and target clients. The products of LED Discrete tend to be simply-designed and their accessories are more flexible; therefore, they cater to a wide range of clients. The methods used for motion detecting that VR wearables feature include Outside-in tracking that, for example, can be found in hTC Vive, and inside-out tracking in devices such as Oculus Rift. Both track locations through cameras with components such as IR LED. In 2017, apart from that the three main VR applications will volume up their output, manufacturers such as Tencent, Nintendo, Microsoft, and Dell will also join in the market. Nonetheless, the differences between product designs, along with other factors including product development and capacity plans, will play crucial roles to determine the amount of demand in the IR LED market.
 
IR Applications In the Automotive Market
In the automotive application market there saw a stable growth of IR LED and IR Laser applications. Since 2000, global car makers have started the development of exterior car safety technology. A decade after, the focus have been shifted to the research of interior car safety; and it is estimated that the development of systems detecting the driver’s reflex reaction and instant status will be the highlight so as to lower the accident rate after 2020. Meanwhile, with the fact that car makers want to enhance the additional value of vehicles, various IR sensing applications, including distance sensor in door switch, gesture sensor in automotive screen, night vision system, Occupant Detection, rain sensor on wipers, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), will be introduced to the market. In the long term, ADAS will also open the door to endless money-making opportunities for the IR market.
