Major Chinese and Taiwanese LED manufacturers will be sharing industrial insights at the sixth “LEDforum Taipei 2013” to take place at the Evergreen International Convention Center in Taipei, Taiwan on Oct. 16-17, 2013. Organizers of the event, TrendForce and its subsidiary 21LED Online have invited China’s leading LED chip manufacturer San’an Optoelectronics Vice President Simon Lin, Laurence Lin, Marketing and Sales General Manager of large Chinese LED packager MLS Co., and many others to share their observations on the LED industry, and carry out technology interchange at the forum. In addition, important speakers at the event will include Epistar Chairman B.J. Lee, and many high ranking managers from major U.S. and European manufacturers. Key company decision makers will be making an appearance. Participants are welcome to celebrate this important annual event.

The LED industry will still be focused on the lighting market in 2014, especially in industrial, commercial and outdoor lighting. “There is still room for the LED lighting market to grow, but the LED-backlit TV market might be showing first signs of decline next year,” said Roger Chu, Research Director of LEDinside. “The LED-backlit TV’s high penetration rate of reaching 95% is the main cause behind the fall. In addition, weak TV shipment momentum estimations may cause LED backlight market to slide from its current peak.”

Manufacturers are increasing LED lighting, due to a possible weak backlight market, according to LEDinside, a green energy subsidiary of TrendForce. Impacted by continual growth in China’s lighting market and easing monitor market, Chinese LED chip manufacturers are gradually turning from monitors to lighting applications. Among these manufacturers, San’an Opotoelectronics LED chips for lighting accounted for 70% of the total 50 billion chips manufactured, 20% of the remaining chips were used for backlight, while monitor applications accounted for 10%. In addition, the company’s MOCVD utilization rates also reached a new historical high of 87% in 1H13.

After LED lighting experienced a second consecutive low market season, MLS, which has one of China’s largest LED package production line is making all necessary preparations as it enters peak sales season of “Golden September and Silver November.” The company plans to plunge completely into the LED lighting market, and is building its lighting brand. The three major markets the company is targeting are commercial lighting, residential lighting and public lighting. MLS’s LED tube brands include Master

Light Source’s tubes which use three primary colors, and MLS tubes for basic lighting. “MLS estimates its two LED tube brands is shipping more than 1 million LED tubes per month, and 90% of shipments are for the domestic market,” said Jack Kuo, Senior Analyst, Green Energy Division, TrendForce. “To connect with major global LED markets, MLS is trying to obtain main international lighting certifications.” In addition, MLS was chosen by China’s Zhongshan City Government of Guangdong Province as one of the leading companies in its “New 300 policy,” which is a policy to support large companies in the RMB 10 billion (US$ 1.63 billion), RMB 100 billion, and RMB 1 trillion. This will help promote MLS business strategy in the Chinese market.

The two day LEDforum Taipei 2013 will run from Oct. 16-Oct. 17, 2013 at the Evergreen International Convention Center. This year’s agenda will be exploring groundbreaking LED technology on Oct. 16. Analysis of upstream LED material, equipment, and epitaxy market trends will allow participants to understand the latest business opportunities and challenges. Explorations of new LED applications and designs the following day will assist attendants to find new blue sea markets in the emerging LED era. LEDforum Taipei 2013 will allow attendants to grasp the latest market trends, direction, and business opportunities. Members in the LED industry are welcome to attend the forum.
