Spurred by LED lighting and mobile device market demands, sapphire substrate manufacturers have been actively expanding their production capacity, according to TrendForce subsidiary LEDinside’s “Global Sapphire Substrate Market 2013” research report. The top five sapphire ingot manufacturers for instance, have seen 2-inch equiv. sapphire substrate monthly production capacity grow by 75% to 7800Kmm compared to 2012.
According to market intelligence organization Trendforce's LEDinside division's newest LED bulb retail findings for October 2013, global 40W equiv LED bulb ASP dipped 2.3 percent to US $15.8 (NT $466), with price decline most evident in the UK region. Conversely, global 60W equiv LED bulb ASP rose slightly 1.2 percent to US $21.6.
Although, mid and large sized LED backlight market was affected by the economic downturn, LED prices for backlight applications overall declined stably at 3-6% in 4Q13, according to LEDinside’s 4Q13 LED price trend report. LED prices for lighting applications also maintained a slow downward slide. The extent of price falls varied among different product specs.
It is pointed out in the latest silver member report issued by LEDinside that global LED lighting penetration rate is rapidly growing. According to the data from LEDinside, a research division of TrendForce, LED lighting market value in 2014 will come to 17.8 billion USD, and the total shipment of LED lighting products will reach 1.32 billion units, with a 68% YoY growth.
Global Average Selling Price (ASP) for 40W equiv. LED lamp was up 2.8 percent to US$ 16.2 in Sept. 2013, according to a latest LED lamp ASP survey by LEDinside, a research subsidiary of TrendForce. Few new products were released worldwide last month. Global 60W equiv. LED lamp was down 2.5 percent to US$ 21.4. Price plunge was most evident in U.S., as top North American lighting brands and wholesalers begin releasing super competitive-priced products. The implemented strategy has obviously stimulated purchases.
