In the fourth quarter of 2014, price trends for the TV and notebook panel segments will diverge. Despite lackluster sales during China’s week-long October National Day holiday, TV panel prices have continued to rise, but with notebook demand forecast to begin dropping off this month – it has been robust up to this point – and continue to fall throughout the fourth quarter, price growth in that segment will slow, according to WitsView.
LED wide-viewing angle monitors reached a penetration rate of 30% in the third quarter, according to WitsView, a subsidiary of the Taiwan-based market intelligence firm TrendForce. Among the different sizes of wide-viewing angle monitors, the penetration rate of those under 20” W was 7%, for those above 21.5” W 45% and for those larger than 27” W 72%.
Large-size panel shipments benefiting from peak-season incentives reached 72.01 million in August, increasing on month 5.6% compared to 2.7% a year ago, according to WitsView, a subsidiary of the Taiwan-based market intelligence firm TrendForce. WitsView expects large-size panel shipments will benefit in September from tablet and notebook demand, pushing up overall shipments to a high for this year and growing on a monthly rate by 3% to 5%.
The global television panel market has been hot all year, and is expected to remain robust for the foreseeable future while the IT panel market is set to moderately cool in the fourth quarter and remain that way into 2015, according to WitsView, a subsidiary of the Taiwan-based global market intelligence TrendForce.
