TrendForce: January Large-sized Panel Shipment Dipped 13% MoM with Tablet Showed Deepest Drop

According to the survey for January 2014 by WitsView, the display research division of the global intelligence provider TrendForce, the large-sized panel shipment for January attained 64.07 million units, dipping 13% MoM with most makers’ panel shipments for January showing drops while only SDC, BOE, and SHARP having reverse growth. The demand for February is expected to soften constantly for all panel applications and the overall large-sized panel shipment will stumble 10%. The TV panel will continue to decline 5%, while the monitor and NB panel shipments trim 3% and 8% respectively and the tablet panel shipment still declines around 20%.

TrendForce: Taiwan TV SI Shipments Dropped Constantly, Brands’ Strategy Adjustment Becomes Key in 2014

Based on the survey of Taiwanese LCD TV SI makers’ shipment by WitsView, the display research division of the global intelligence provider TrendForce, Taiwanese SI makers’ LCD TV shipment for Q4 2013 surged 17.5% QoQ to 10.28 million units, dipping 6.4% YoY. The full-year shipment was weaker than expected, only 35.85 million units, declining 5.4% YoY. Due to the traditional slow season in Q1, the SI shipment drop is comparable to brands’ shipment decline, further trimming by 23-25%.

The fierce battle between Apple and Samsung in the smart phone segment will spread to the tablet arena in 2014. According WitsView, the display research division of the global intelligence provider TrendForce, the two giant brands show distinct strategies in the tablet business units as Apple retains a conservative defendant measure to secure profits and Samsung sees shipment expansion as top priority with the urge to grow actively. With different strategy execution and effects, the shipment volumes of these two will be approaching with a market share gap narrowing to less than 10% in Q1 this year.

TrendForce: SONY Suffered 30% Shipment Drop in Three Years, Clearly Struggling

The news that SONY sells its VAIO PC unit is shocking but not surprising. Based on the survey by WitsView, the display division of the global intelligence provider TrendForce, SONY’s NB shipment declined near 35% from 2010 to 2013 with a worldwide market share dipping to below 4% in 2013, indicating its PC unit facing severe obstacles.

TrendForce: Rising Inventory Pressure and Weakening Shipment Lead to 10% Drop in Q1 LCD Monitor Shipment

Based on the survey by WitsView, the display research division of the global intelligence provider TrendForce, the global top ten LCD monitor brands’ shipment in December 2013 declined sharply 11.8% MoM and grew slightly from the same period last year as LCD monitor brands had distributed goods in advance to retailers in October and November for the year-end holidays and held conservative procurement for the following slow season in the U.S. and Europe. SI makers’ December shipment dipped 5.8% MoM and trimmed 6.9% YoY due to SI makers’ inventory level adjustment for the year-end financial inventory settlement and some panel makers’ delayed panel shipment.
